Services

Health and safety isn’t black and white. I know how far it can be pushed — how much you spend, how compliant you actually need to be, and what it takes to still get the job built. Twenty-six years in construction health and safety, including assistant North West regional H&S manager for National Grid and regional H&S manager for Crosby Homes NW — plus years working both sides, for housebuilders and for the subcontractors who build for them.

I hold a postgraduate degree in Occupational Health, Safety and the Environment (Oxford Brookes University), a NEBOSH Diploma (Part 1) and a NEBOSH National General Certificate. I’m also, by reputation, a pretty relentless accident investigator — the kind of person who’s helped reduce liability, or get claims dismissed altogether, for the clients I’ve worked with.

However much — or little — help you want with health and safety for new build subcontractors, there’s a way to work with me.

1. Do It Yourself — keep your money, spend the time yourself

Download-and-go guides covering the paperwork every new build subcontractor gets asked for, including:

  • How to write a risk assessment
  • How to fill in a RIDDOR report
  • Writing a construction phase plan
  • Filling in a Pre-Qualification Questionnaire (PQQ)
  • Keeping training records
  • Writing a method statement
  • How to do a COSHH assessment
  • Working out Hand-Arm Vibration (HAVS) values
  • Setting up a traffic management system
  • Dust control on a construction site
  • Preventing falls from height

Every guide is a straightforward PDF, written so you can actually follow it — no jargon for the sake of it.

This tier is for anyone who’d rather have a go themselves before paying someone else. Plenty of you will get through it and be glad you saved the money. If you get partway through and decide your time’s worth more than the paperwork, Templates and the Retained Service below are exactly what you move on to.

2. Templates — the paperwork, already written, yours to tweak

Ready-made CDM templates and risk assessments, from £5+VAT, delivered as editable Word and Excel files — no fighting with locked PDFs. Amend the details for each job and you’re done.

Trade-specific bundles cover most of construction, plus documents built specifically for principal contractors — including a Pre-Construction Information pack template and a Construction Phase Plan template. There’s also an in-depth Accident Report template, built to actually hold up if a personal injury claim ever lands on your desk.

The bulk of the library is risk assessments, because that’s the document you’ll be asked for more than any other.

3. Retained Service — you run the job, I run the paperwork

£200+VAT/month. For subcontractors who’d rather hand the whole thing over and get on with building.

Within your first month, you get:

  • A full health and safety policy and record-keeping system
  • Trade-specific risk assessments and method statements
  • PPE, HAVS, Manual Handling, Work at Height and COSHH assessments

After that, it’s ongoing:

  • Unlimited site-specific RAMS, whenever you need them
  • A WhatsApp line — got a question, message me, I’ll answer it
  • I act as your appointed competent person under the CDM Regulations
  • A monthly toolbox talk
  • A weekly newsletter
  • Training records collated into a training matrix, updated every quarter
  • Unlimited Pre-Qualification Questionnaires (PQQs) completed on your behalf
  • Direct response to the HSE if an enforcement notice ever lands on you
  • Advice the moment an accident happens, including RIDDOR reporting where it’s needed, plus a full desktop investigation to work out what went wrong and stop it happening again
  • One SSIP accreditation application included (SMAS) — CHAS available for an extra £200+VAT, and higher-tier accreditations (CHAS Elite, Constructionline Gold) for £400+VAT

Need something fast? Anything urgent gets a response within 48 hours.

What you get that Templates and DIY don’t: documents written specifically for your job, ready to use — no filling in the blanks yourself. PQQs done for you. SSIP applications done for you. My name behind you as your competent person.
